Eliza Bathory (Bathory is a pseudonym) is a guest artist at the Lilith Gallery. Native to
Romania, she is an artist, an architect and a gothic fashion designer.
Her artwork is inspired by the architecture and cemetaries of Romania.
She lives in the town of Tulcea, just south east of Transylvania.
Within her work, you also find many references to Bathory. Bathory was
a Hungarian Countess (1560-1614), reputed to have killed many people,
and bathed in the blood of virgin maidens in order to maintain her
beauty. She was known as the "Bloody Countess".
Her style is definitively Neo-Gothic, combining sexuality with death
and religion, and also playing upon archetypes of vampires and ideas
of Transylvania. Architecture plays a huge role in her drawings and
photography.
The clothing shown in her photographic works are also made by
Eliza Bathory. Her photographic work is made using a digital
camera.
